What is the most important lesson you want your children or other young people in your life to learn before adulthood?
¿Cuál es aquella importante lección de vida que usted quisiera que su hijo (o aquella persona importante en su vida) aprendiera antes de llegar a la edad adulta?
Be a strong child and understand that being able to take care of yourself is very important.
Deseo que mis hijos sean fuertes y comprendan que poder cuidarse a sí mismo es muy importante.
Why is this work for our children and our community so important to you?
Para Usted, ¿Por qué considera este trabajo importante para nuestros hijos y nuestra comunidad?
I love my community. Everyone should be able to get what they deserve. Being able to have enough food, quality education, and financial assistance from other communities.
Amo a mi comunidad. Todos deberían poder obtener lo que se merecen. Poder tener suficiente comida, educación de calidad y asistencia financiera de otras comunidades.
Where do you lead/serve in the community?

A) I connect to the Somali community, SPEB and PLT, community leaders in the mosque. I also tell my story to connect with Somali parents and children to help them in the community.
B) I get my information from internet, Facebook, Mosque leaders, SPEB, PLT, and other trusted leaders in the community.
A) Me conecto con la comunidad somalí, SPEB y PLT, líderes comunitarios en la mezquita. También cuento mi historia para conectarme con padres e hijos somalíes para ayudarlos en la comunidad.

How has COVID-19 changed your everyday parenting and education?
De que manera COVID ha cambiado su dia a dia en la crianza y educación de sus hijos?
COVID-19 made me have more responsibilities, be more patient, and think that maybe GOD is upset with us. COVID also makes me look at how my children are being taught, how they feel about school, and the way children are being taught.
COVID-19 me hizo tener más responsabilidades, ser más paciente y tal vez DIOS está molesto con nosotros. COVID también me hace ver cómo se les enseña a mis hijos, cómo se sienten con respecto a la escuela y cómo se les enseña a los niños.
What have you learned as a parent about your children and family in this pandemic?
Que ha aprendido como padre sobre sus hijos y su familia en esta pandemia?
I learned how my children act at school and how they act at home. I also am learning about my babies learning style. I am now more connected with my family, especially now that we have more time at home.
Aprendí cómo actúan mis hijos en la escuela y cómo actúan en casa. También estoy aprendiendo sobre el estilo de aprendizaje de mis bebés. Ahora estoy más conectada con mi familia, especialmente ahora que tenemos más tiempo en casa.
Has the lack of person to person interaction affected your family in regards to education and family life?
De qué manera la falta de interacción personal ha afectado a sus familias en lo que respecta a la educación y la vida familiar?
The pandemic has made my family better. I have had to learn to be more patient and understanding. Now that my children are going back to school, I feel that some things will go back to normal.
La pandemia ha mejorado a mi familia. He tenido que aprender a ser más paciente y comprensiva. Ahora que mis hijos van a regresar a la escuela, siento que algunas cosas volverán a la normalidad.
Now that your children are at home doing remote learning, do you have a newfound respect for teachers?
Ahora que sus hijos están en casa aprendiendo a distancia, siente más respeto o simpatía por los maestros?
Yes, with teaching many different lessons and keeping them on task, I really appreciate teachers. They are a second parent to the child and they want the child to thrive. Teachers also want to connect with parents, just to see if they can help the parents be involved with their children’s education.
Sí, Ellos enseñan muchas lecciones diferentes y los mantienen concentrados, realmente aprecio a los maestros. Son un segundo padre del niño y quieren que el niño prospere. Los maestros también quieren conectarse con los padres, viendo de qué manera pueden ayudar a los padres a participar en la educación de sus hijos.
What part has racism and inequity played in your education?
Qué papel han jugado el racismo y la inequidad en su educación?
I know that there is a lot of racism in the education system, and I believe that everyone should know how to fight back and know their rights. Racism is in everything; like the hospital, work, and especially the school. Racism can happen to anyone.
Sé que hay mucho racismo en el sistema educativo y creo que todos deberían saber defenderse y conocer sus derechos. El racismo está en todos lados; como el hospital, el trabajo y sobre todo la escuela. El racismo le puede pasar a cualquiera.
Who was your favorite teacher or movie growing up and why?
¿Quién fue su maestro favorito o cuál fue su película favorita con la que usted creció y por qué?
My favorite teacher was my uncle, who taught me how to read and write the Quraan. He taught me the beginning of my religion and how to interact with good people and how to talk to people in other communities. The Quraan has made me a better person and I am thankful to my uncle.
Mi maestro favorito fue mi tío, quien me enseñó a leer y escribir el Corán. Me enseñó el comienzo de mi religión y cómo interactuar con buenas personas y cómo hablar con personas de otras comunidades. El Corán me ha hecho una mejor persona y estoy agradecida con mi tío.
