¿Cuál es aquella importante lección de vida que usted quisiera que su hijo (o aquella persona importante en su vida) aprendiera antes de llegar a la edad adulta?
What is the most important lesson you want your children or other young people in your life to learn before adulthood?
La importancia del amor propio, los valores (respeto, lealtad, honestidad, empatía, puntualidad entre otros), el administrar su tiempo, y aprender cosas que en el futuro le serán de utilidad.
The importance of self-love, values (respect, loyalty, honesty, empathy, punctuality, among others), to manage their time, and to learn things that in the future will be useful.
Para Usted, ¿Por qué considera este trabajo importante para nuestros hijos y nuestra comunidad?
Why is this work for our children and our community so important to you?
Porque somos un vínculo y a través de esto (conocimiento, capacitación e intercambio de ideas) podemos hacer cambios así como dejarle saber a otros padres la importancia de estar presentes y hacer valer nuestra voz.
Because we are a link and through this (knowledge, training and exchange of ideas), we can make changes as well as let other parents know the importance of being present and asserting our voice.
Teniendo en cuenta todos los lugares y/o espacios donde usted ayuda a otros: ¿En dónde se siente más conectado con la comunidad?
Where do you lead/serve in the community?
Es difícil responder en cual, porque en los lugares que participó mientras sea parte de ellos y sea tratada con respeto, escuchada y me den la oportunidad de aprender así como apoyar en mi desarrollo en diferentes áreas me será un placer seguir participando
Participo en PLN, SPEB, PLT. Aprendo y participo en mi comunidad en talleres, reuniones, pláticas entre padres de familia.
It is difficult to answer which one, because in the places where I participated, as long as I’m part of them and I get treated with respect, am listened to and given the opportunity to learn, as well as support my development in different areas, it will be a pleasure for me to continue participating. I participate in the Parent Leader Network (PLN), Supporting Partnerships in Education & Beyond (SPEB), and the Road Map Project Parent Leadership Team (PLT). I learn and participate in my community in workshops, meetings, and talks between parents.
De que manera COVID ha cambiado su dia a dia en la crianza y educación de sus hijos?
How has COVID-19 changed your everyday parenting and education?
En la manera que necesite ser maestra en tiempo completo de mi hijo de 5 años, aprender de tecnología para apoyarlo, aprender de Zoom para las reuniones, en ocasiones he tenido estrés por la situación de ser madre de 7/24, en ver las necesidades que están pasando en la escuela y buscar ayuda.
In the way that I need to be a full-time teacher to my 5-year-old son, learn technology to support him, learn how to use the Zoom application for the meetings, at times I have been stressed by the situation of being a 7/24 mother, in seeing the needs going on at school and seeking help.
Que ha aprendido como padre sobre sus hijos y su familia en esta pandemia?
What have you learned as a parent about your children and family in this pandemic?
A estar con ellos más tiempo de lo que he estado anteriormente, pero este año he estado tiempo completo, a organizar tiempo, actividades, en estar en comunicación más seguido, en usar los medios tecnológicos y ver a mi familia de esa manera ya que ellos viven lejos de aquí y no han podido venir a visitarme, en valorar la salud aún más, y ser más consciente del tiempo presente, agradeciendo por todo.
To be with them longer than I have previously, but this year I have been full time, to organize time, activities, to be in communication more often, to use technological tools and to see my family that way since they live far from here and have not been able to come to visit me, to value health even more, and be more aware of the present time, being thankful for everything.
De qué manera la falta de interacción personal ha afectado a sus familias en lo que respecta a la educación y la vida familiar?
Has the lack of person to person interaction affected your family in regards to education and family life?
En el área emocional, a mi me gusta hablar y conocer personas, me gusta reunirme con personas y platicar no es lo mismo por teléfono o computadora. A mis hijos también el área emocional fue impactada. Ellos se volvieron más dependientes de la tecnología.
In the emotional area, I like to talk with and meet people. It’s not the same on the phone or on the computer. My children were also affected by the emotional area. They became more dependent on technology.
Ahora que sus hijos están en casa aprendiendo a distancia, siente más respeto o simpatía por los maestros?
Now that your children are at home doing remote learning, do you have a newfound respect for teachers?
Siempre he tenido respeto por los maestros por su trabajo y dedicación. Aunque hay diferentes maestros algunos son muy apegados a su profesión y desempeñan su trabajo de una manera muy profesional y algunos otros son un poco más desahogados podría decir yo que simplemente van y cumplen con su trabajo y yo sin embargo he sido constante con algunos maestros especialmente este año donde he mantenido comunicación desde el inicio por medio de email, de reuniones por Zoom porque la educación de mis hijos es importante, Por tal motivo estoy muy cerca en comunicación con cada uno de los maestros, ellos hasta este momento han respondido y cooperado muy bien y eso me da mucha alegria y satisfaccion.
I have always had respect for teachers for their work and dedication. Although there are different teachers, some are very attached to their profession and carry out their work in a very professional way and some others are a little more comfortable, I could say that they simply go and do their job. I have been constant with some teachers, especially this year where I have maintained communication from the beginning through email and meetings by Zoom, because the education of my children is important. For this reason, I am very close in communication with each of the teachers. They have responded and cooperated up to this moment very well and that gives me a lot of joy and satisfaction.
Qué papel han jugado el racismo y la inequidad en su educación?
What part has racism and inequity played in your education?
El racismo es un tema fuerte porque algunas personas hemos sido parte de ello, en mi puedo decir que se han burlado de la forma que hablo ingles, entiendo que no es perfecto y necesito mejorarlo sin embargo siempre trato de hacer mi mejor esfuerzo y cuando no se alguna palabra pido ayuda. También he sufrido racismo cuando en algunos lugares dan prioridad a la gente blanca donde a ellos no se les exigen las mismas cosas, ellos no son reprimidos. Mis hijos en la escuela también han sido parte de esto, uno de los maestros de mi hijo le dijo, deberías leer este libro, no entiendi porqué y el libro trataba sobre las personas inmigrantes, también otros niños le han dicho cosas por su aspecto Latino, diciéndole que se vaya, que no debe de estar aquí, que nosotros no somos parte, entre otras cosas.
Racism is a strong issue because some people have been part of it. For me, I can say that some people have made fun of the way I speak English. I understand that it is not perfect and I need to improve it, however I always try to do my best and when I don’t know a word, I ask for help. I have also suffered racism when in some places they give priority to white people where the same things are not demanded of them, they are not repressed. My children at school have also been part of this. One of my son’s teachers told him, you should read this book. I did not understand why, and the book was about immigrants. Also, other children have said things to him because of his Latino aspect, telling him to go away, that he should not be here, that we are not part of it, among other things.
¿Quién fue su maestro favorito o cuál fue su película favorita con la que usted creció y por qué?
Who was your favorite teacher or movie growing up and why?
En si no tengo películas favoritas, pero sí recuerdo que crecí viendo la película de Caperucita Roja y el Lobo Feroz así como la película de Bambi y leí el libro de Los Tres Cochinitos, y en cuestión de mis maestros tuve varios, Recuerdo un profesor cuyo nombre era Martha. Ella tenia una discapacidad, nos aconsejaba al no intimidarnos por nada, que podemos lograr lo que queramos y que aunque tuviéramos alguna discapacidad podríamos lograr nuestras metas. Ella fue un ejemplo de esto, y varios maestros también reforzaron la importancia de la educación, nos enseñaron a compartir nuestro aprendizaje con otras personas y a dar siempre lo mejor de nosotros. También un maestro de todo tiempo ha sido mi mamá quien de pequeña me enseñó la importancia de educarse y aprender y que continue haciendo aquello que me gusta aun cuando las cosas no sean fáciles con la ayuda de dios todo es posible y con la voluntad y la persistencia de uno.
I do not have favorite movies, but I do remember that I grew up watching the movie of Little Red Riding Hood and the Big Bad Wolf as well as the movie Bambi, and I read the book The Three Little Pigs. In terms of my teachers, I had several. I remember a teacher whose name is Martha. She was disabled and she told us not to be intimidated, that we are going to do what we want to, and even if we had some disabilities we could achieve our goals. She was an example of this, and several teachers who always reinforced the importance of education, and taught us to share our learning with other people and to always do our best. Also a teacher of all time has been my mother who as a child taught me the importance of educating and learning and to continue doing what I like even when things are not easy with the help of God everything is possible and with the will and persistence of ourselves.
