Mary Fertakis is longtime community leader in Tukwila and recently retired from the Tukwila School Board after serving for 22 years. She has a lot of favorite places in the region. If it’s food, it has be La Teranga, a fantastic Senegalese restaurant in Columbia City where she goes whenever she feels the need to connect to her second home (where she served in the Peace Corps). She can converse with the owner in Wolof and French, experience Senegalese hospitality (teranga), and enjoy some of her favorite dishes. If it’s about a specific space, it’s Tukwila. She loves living in a community where she can interact with the world’s cultures on a daily basis.
