Carlina staffs the School District Family Engagement Leaders and the Parent Leadership Team–working to build a robust family engagement system for the region. Carlina has been doing parent engagement work for more than 20 years. She began by serving on the policy council of the largest Head Start grant west of the Mississippi River in Denver. Carlina has since been recognized by the Obama administration as a Champion for Change by the White House through her work with the Rainier Beach High School Parent-Teacher-Student Association. She continues to be deeply committed to building equity in education systems. Originally from Denver, Carlina is the mother of seven children, ranging from 11 to 31 years old, and has one grandson. Her favorite place in the Road Map Project region is Kona Kai Coffee in Kent.
