SEATTLE/SOUTH KING COUNTY – The region’s first-ever DiscoverU day on Wednesday was a success, providing thousands of students the opportunity to think about their interests and reflect on their futures. On DiscoverU, students of all ages – kindergartners through high school seniors – engaged in activities and conversations to help build excitement around college and career exploration across Seattle and South King County. Schools in more than seven districts embraced the DiscoverU idea and incorporated assemblies, career workshops, photo booths and more into the school day.

DiscoverU kicked off the Road Map to College, an annual campaign of free events in Seattle and South King County to support students in navigating the college enrollment process. The campaign is supported by the Road Map ProjectSeattle College Access NetworkSouth King County College Access NetworkWashington Student Achievement Council and many districts and schools. Additional organizations and hundreds of volunteers also contribute to making the campaign a success.

Here is a look at what’s coming up on the Road Map to College:

College Application Completion Events

From now through Dec. 4, dozens of College Application Completion Events are taking place across the region. These events provide one-on-one support for high school seniors researching colleges, filling out applications and drafting personal statements. College admissions staff will also be present at some events.

College Goal Washington

In January and February, College Goal Washington events will help students and families file the FAFSA (Free Application for Federal Student Aid). There will be volunteers and financial aid experts on hand to answer questions. Some events will also have a scholarship component.

What’s Next Events

From March to April, What’s Next Events will provide students support as they complete the final steps to obtain financial aid and enroll in college. Financial aid experts will be on site to help with FAFSA revisions and award letter comparisons.
