Thirty successful education efforts throughout Seattle and South King County have been selected to be honored at the 2016 Celebration of Success, an event co-hosted by the Road Map Project and the team from the Puget Sound Educational Service District, working on the region’s Race to the Top grant. This event is aimed at highlighting important work being done to support racial equity, close the opportunity gap, and demonstrates promising results for low-income students, children of color and students who have historically been disadvantaged. “We are excited to highlight these successful efforts impacting students in the region at all levels from early learning through college access and career connections,” said Jessica de Barros, executive project director – Road Map Region Race to the Top Grant. “Our selected exhibitors represent diverse communities and unique partnerships with school districts, higher education, community-based organizations and many other agencies.”
The event will be a unique opportunity for those who have successes to share results and key learnings, and for people and organizations interested in learning and spreading these efforts.
“The Celebration of Success is an opportunity for education partners, community leaders, and philanthropists to learn what’s working in our region and explore ways to expand the successful work,” said Mary Jean Ryan, executive director of the Community Center for Education Results (CCER).
Invitees include private and public funders; media; district and community partners who have led Race to the Top programs; superintendents, school board members and union presidents from the Road Map Project districts; state, local and federal elected officials; parent leaders; student advocates; higher education leaders; business leaders and community organizations and advocates.

About the Road Map Project & Road Map Race to the Top
The Road Map Project is a collective impact initiative aimed at dramatically improving student achievement from cradle to college and career in South King County and South Seattle. The goal is to double the number of students in South King County and South Seattle who are on track to graduate from college or earn a career credential by 2020. Project partners are committed to nothing less than closing the unacceptable achievement gaps for low-income students and children of color, and increasing achievement for all students.
In 2012, seven King County, Washington, school districts joined forces and won $40 million in federal Race to the Top funds over four years. The participating school districts are Auburn, Federal Way, Highline, Kent, Renton, Seattle and Tukwila. The districts dubbed themselves The Road Map District Consortium, a reference to their participation in the Road Map Project.
